Kathy Cooper | ![]() |
Kathy Cooper...a contradiction and proud of it. She enjoys this self-photo because it expresses what she is most comfortable with, herself at her worst. Anything else has to got get better.
Kathy began oil training under a private Dutch tutor, Lydia Diemont, at the young age of eleven. She continued studying, mostly by copying works of the masters until eighteen. When faced with college degree direction, she sought the advice and counsel of her parents and studied business management instead of art at The University of New Orleans, Louisiana Tech University, and the University of Texas. She would later own and operate a very successful interior design firm in New Orleans and later a computer software development firm in her home town of Doylestown, PA. Kathy now fills her days with the tasks of administrative assistant to the pastors of a local church and as the prayer coordinator for her own church in Doylestown, PA.
Following her studies and marriage came four little ones...now all very artistically talented and ranging in age from 31 to 21. This grandmother of four loves to paint with tremendous emotion stirred by her prayerful attitude and emotional interaction with very loud praise and worship music... while painting. It becomes a kind of "out-of-body" experience. Painting is a time of communing with God and enjoying the utter beauty of His creation. The deep saturation of almost staight from the tube color and daring expressiveness with rich texture make painting with oils a spiritual experience as well as a period of total joy for Kathy. She now paints in her home studio surrounded by three floor to ceiling glass walls and two skylights. Kathy feels that God has truly blessed her with immeasurably more than she could ever ask or imagine.

Joy Deaton | ![]() |
Even though she currently resides in the bustling atmosphere of Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C., Joy Deaton is more accustomed to the quiet sounds of the countryside. Joy grew up in a small community outside of Athens, Georgia, an energetic town that serves as home of the Georgia Bulldogs, and she is a true Southerner at heart. After graduating from a small high school in Athens, she decided she liked the small-school feeling and decided to pursue her undergraduate degree at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Berry has only 2,000 students, but is located on the largest college campus in the world, boasting a beautiful 28,000 acres. While at Berry, Joy studied history, with an emphasis on the Early American Republic. She also represented her school in the athletic arena by running Track and Cross Country. In her spare time, she enjoyed the opportunity to work on various political campaigns, which further nursed her passion for our American heritage.
From the time Joy was very young she enjoyed studying American history, and found the Christian heritage of the United States especially intriguing. After graduating from college she accepted a job with a communications group just outside of D.C. The company specializes in raising funds for non-profit organizations such as the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and the American Youth Foundation. Joy’s job allows her to combine her enthusiasm for the American heritage with her interest in politics by giving her the opportunity to participate in the process of raising funds for some institutions that specialize in preserving American history and others that strive to instill and maintain conservative values in American political institutions. She enjoys the challenge of constantly looking for new ways to remind Americans of their Christian heritage, and in helping them apply their knowledge of our history to the way they participate in the political process.
Joy also thinks it is very important to find time to relax. She enjoys running, playing the piano and reading. When she really wants to have a good time she heads to the kitchen to cook a meal, and invites friends over to help her enjoy the new recipes she tries. In light of recent experiences, now when she cooks for friends, she tries to always keep a back-up dish on hand in case she burns the main course!

Mike Embrey | ![]() |
Mike Embrey is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech with a mechanical engineering background. He chose mechanical engineering because that was the only major he could find that had the same initials as his name (just joking, that’s not the real reason why I chose mechanical engineering). Hanover, Virginia, which is approximately 30.3 minutes Northwest from Richmond, VA, is Mike’s home town. Currently, Mike is serving as a summer intern for the Central Virginia Baptist Association. His internship consists of assisting the local churches within the association with anything they need help with ( basically serving as a slave for the association). For example, he has helped churches with Vacation Bible School, youth bible studies, chaperoning youth mission/retreat trips, and eating their food.
Mike is attending Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in the Fall and is pursuing a Masters of Divinity with an emphasis in biblical counseling. Becoming either a youth pastor or a pastor is what Mike hopes to do in the near future. To Mike, there is nothing more important than knowing and worshipping Jesus Christ our Lord and helping others do the same. This is the main reason why he is pursuing seminary. Mike believes if he is not doing some type of full time ministry, he might as well be dead.
When Mr. Embrey is not doing any work, he enjoys drawing, photography, hiking, sunrises, playing volleyball, laughing with friends, and talking to people. He also enjoys counseling people, getting into deep meaningful conversations about God, and praying. Mike also hopes to visit more places around the world and meet new people.

Carl Holmes once was asked to explain who he was for an essay. It was interesting because he used the word gyrovague to describe himself. Even the teacher had to get the dictionary out. It means to be a homeless wander. That is what he figures himself to be since he is not yet home.
In the meantime Carl has started going to school at Summit Bible College in Bakersfield, CA. He will soon graduate with a degree in theology with an emphasis on pastoral care.
While not writing or sitting in his cubicle jungle he lives in Colorado Springs, CO with his beautiful wife Amy and 4 year old son Jacob. He is a small group leader with New Life Church with an emphasis on current events and the way they relate to the Christian faith. He also blogs at Thoughts of a Gyrovague.

Always interested in the affairs of state, Clare began her political career by stuffing envelopes for state and local campaigns and then interned in the office of a Texas state senator while studying at UT. She has since turned the tables and works for a state lobbying firm called Heritage Alliance (www.heritagealliance.com). Clare actively teaches citizens the value of voting intelligently and voicing their concerns to their elected officials.
As the oldest of five children (the youngest is still in utero!!), Clare enjoys spending time with her family. She is an active member of Watermark Community Church (www.watermarkcommunity.org) where she leads a small group Bible study of single, professional women. In her free time, Clare loves to sail, travel, read, talk, take tae kwon do, play ultimate frisbee, and decorate! Not commonly known is that she was a member of her high school diving team. Clare is passionate about Truth and communicating Truth to women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy. Her dream is to one day start a pregnancy resource center in a neighborhood that has a high pregnancy termination rate.

Corban Klug | ![]() |
Corban Klug is a first year attorney (read "not yet star litigator") at the Charlottesville, Virginia law firm Scott Kroner PLC. He received his juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2003 and before that studied mechanical engineering at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. Confident conversing both scientifically and linguistically, he is either a unique intellectual specimen or a truly strange duck, depending on your point of view (his wife would vote the latter). After law school and prior to entering the real world of the law, he spent an irenic transitional year as a law clerk to United States Magistrate Judge B. Waugh Crigler in Charlottesville. One day he would like to practice constitutional law with an emphasis on religious liberty.
Out of court and off resume, Corban is an aspiring novelist with one full-length self-published novel in print ("A Light in the Darkness" from Xulon Press) and a second novel "Things Unseen" currently in the editing process. Both are visionary tales of spiritual transformation. His other interests vary widely (his wife would say "exhaustively") and include fictional literature (particularly historical epics), recreational athletics (tennis and slow-pitch softball), the piano (an instrument far more sublime than his talents), naturalism (trees and stars not Richard Dawkins), philosophical apologetics (especially ethics, cosmology and theories of origin), the Constitution (his specialty at UVa was the First Amendment), cultural criticism (long live Chuck Colson), and the discipline of prayer. He has been married two years and considers his wife the delight of his life, second only to Jesus who is Light and Life.

Kemp Kolb | ![]() |
Kemp Kolb is a retired engineering manager for designing and producing small water pumps. He obtained his engineering degree from Drexel in 1959. Contrary to advice and amazement of his professors and fellow students he went into teaching physics, his first love. He literally ate, drank, and slept physics. His masters in Physics he obtained in 1967 from Purdue. Twenty years later he decided his professors and fellow students were wise after all. Kemp is a bit slow. He worked in engineering for fifteen years. In both careers he was most inventive with all kinds of procedures and devices one could imagine. Most of them were not very good. His third career, actually more properly should be called a passion, became art. He had been dabbling all his life half heartedly with drawing, sculpture, writing, building, painting, composing music, playing four of the brass instruments, clarinet, and piano. In 1990 he began focusing on drawing and painting and after retiring in 1997 art became all consuming.
Since he was Twelve he had been praying to the Lord without knowing any thing at all. His parents did not did not know about it. Beginning in high school he became convinced that both science and the Bible were literally correct, and, in true style, he began to reconcile them together. This continued all his life until lately, when he discovered that the assumptions of astronomical and biological evolution were more taken on faith, and contradictory, than the more scientifically documented Bible, and that he had, alas, been attempting to do what others had already done. This was a pattern with Kemp’s arrogance. While in the army in 1954 he gave his life to the Lord.
It should be becoming apparent now that Kemp is the epitome of an arrogant renaissance man, one who knows almost nothing about almost every thing and is proficient at nothing. To maintain this reputation he, with no shame, presented his particle theory of light in person to the American Institute of Physics. The session was packed and enjoyed by all of the physicists, but naturally not endorsed by any but one or two.
What he is becoming somewhat better at is painting in all its aspects of drawing, charcoal, chalk and oil pastels, water color, and acrylic. Recently with the computer and a mouse as his paint brush he began to paint in a new way. This was helped when he obtained a pallet and wireless stylus. In all these media he paints a picture every two weeks and has produced some 300 paintings. Since his intense study of the Bible he has been taking a Bible verse and illustrating it with a painting of a face or figure. He is also becoming better at listening to his Lord and seeking His guidance at almost every moment. He now cannot imagine any other way to live.

She was also the founding Director of Helping Hands Pregnancy and Parenting Center in Oakhurst, California. She has been active in working with children, youth and their families for the past 15 years.
Narda lived in the mountain hamlet of Oakhurst for 37 years prior to moving to the big city of Fresno in 2004. On a more personal note, Narda has a variety of interests that take up her time (as well as her mind). Narda has a heart to see city and state transformation is involved in prayer to that end. She is a 2005 Centurion with the Wilberforce Forum and working on finalizing her short term and three year project (which seems like it is taking three years). Her interest’s include reading, cats, grandchildren, scrapbooking, grandchildren (oh, did I mention that already?) travel (most recently to Hawaii), and personal transformation. Narda is single and lives with her, cats Missy and Jasmine.

Don and Sheila Richardson | ![]() |
Don and Sheila have been married 48 years. (That places them in the category of real dinosaurs.) They live on a farm near Charlottesville, Virginia, because they both attended the University of Virginia and discovered early where heaven on earth is located. If you want to learn about their passion - just ask them about Origins, and they will bend your ear for hours.
Don is a physician, totally a UVA product, having received BA, MD, and dermatology residency training all in Charlottesville. He hails from the hills of West Virginia. He came to the Lord rather late in life, a direct result of studying origins and removing the stumbling blocks that kept him from faith. His days are filled with his practice of dermatology in Charlottesville, his cattle activities at his mountain farm, and serving as elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church. In addition to origins, he really gets excited about his cows, his mountain and all the created things on it, the Word of God, and sports (not in that order). He and Sheila have four children and four grandchildren, so he gets excited about that, too.
Sheila was a nurse (yes, the old ‘nurse and doctor’ thing) at UVa, where she received her BS and also a Masters in Education. She taught at UVA, was a Childbirth educator for years, and after becoming a Christian turned her energy to studying and teaching the Word of God. She is excited about studying God’s Word, and THAT is a subject, in addition to origins, that she will engage at any opportunity. She has been a Precept leader for 25 years, and for 15 years served as a Workshop Trainer for Precept Ministries. She has tried her hand at writing in recent years, and has published two Precept Genesis courses, one course for youth and intergenerational classes on Genesis (get the theme?) for Answers in Genesis Ministries, and a book with Dr. Kurt Wise published by Broadman and Holman in 2003 called “Something from Nothing” (yes, that is about creation also.)

Tim Schmoyer | ![]() |
No ladies, this isn't Tom Cruise -- this is Tim Schmoyer, a way-cool guy who currently resides in Dallas, Texas. As a graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University and Dallas Theological Seminary, he now devotes his time to serving as a youth pastor to an awesome group of students at Redeemer Evangelical Covenant Church. He spent four years writing online daily Bible studies for ZJam Youth Ministries based in Nashville, Tennessee, so writing on topics relevant to our site is nothing new for him. His lessons are read daily by thousands of students around the world. Youth pastors also use his material for their weekly curriculum.
Tim's passion in life is clearly youth ministry. Starting as a sophomore with Student Venture in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, student ministry easily became contagious, a fever that drives him to this day. In 1998 and 1999 he worked at Camp Sankanac near Pottstown, Pennsylvania, as a counselor. Through college semesters at PBU he served as the Senior High Director at Calvary Church of Souderton, but during each summer he traveled to various other places to give of his time in student ministry. The summer of 2000 was spent working as the interim youth pastor at Princess Anne Plaza Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia and also with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association at Amsterdam 2000. Then in 2001 he started working with ZJam Youth Ministries in Nashville, Tennessee, an internationally syndicated Christian rock radio show for teenagers. During that time he directed Teen Hopeline and started the NeXT STeP Bible Study, a daily bible study written for students wanting to take their relationship with God to the next level. His subscriber list grew from 0 to over 10,000 in only a few short years. Summer of 2002 rolled around and he went to Camp Haluwasa in Hammonton, New Jersey, where he directed a camp for inner-city Angel Tree children for the summer. It was at the conclusion of that time when he moved to Dallas, Texas to attend DTS and has lived there ever since. During his time in Dallas he's been the youth pastor at two churches, Eagle Ridge Church and is currently at Redeemer Evangelical Covenant Church.
Tim has gone through several challenging situations in his life that have each shaped him into the person he is today. The most significant of these took place several years ago when he was lost late at night in Philadelphia. He was completely alone and had no way of contacting anyone he knew. God took that time and taught Tim a valuable lesson that will forever remain tattooed on his heart: God is completely trustworthy and is always faithful. To read more about this experience, check out this Bible study he wrote for NeXT STeP.
Now that seminary is over he devotes his free-time to the more important things in life, like video games and sleep. Unfortunately his other part-time job, network administration for a company in Dallas, gets in the way of both of the above, but somehow he still manages to live. His free time is also spent working out at the gym and developing various websites. You can find more of what is going on in Tim's life on his personal blog.

He enjoys spending the majority of his free time with Ann and Patrick. He also enjoys driving, working on, reading about, and writing about interesting automobiles. He is a staff writer for the monthly car magazine Roundel and he also writes an automotive column for a local newspaper. From time to time he instructs at high performance driving schools-both classroom and in-car. Other interests include current affairs/politics, Guy Movies, modern military history, and home theater design and installation. His newest hobby will be motorcycling-provided he can ever find a sufficiently entertaining bike in his price range.
Bailey’s father was a law professor at the University of Louisville(Go Cards!) as well as a Sunday School teacher for over three decades. Bailey inherited a minuscule amount of his father’s much-admired teaching abilities, but he has cultivated what talent he has by teaching Sunday School on a semi-regular basis. In addition, he has led two of Charles Colson’s small group worldview studies, CounterCultural Christians and How Now Shall We Live? Bailey is a member of the Wilberforce Forum’s 2005 Centurions Program-most likely due to some massive breakdown in their admissions process. Bailey hopes to use his abilities and training to teach new Christians-of any age-how to develop and apply a Christian worldview to all aspects of their lives.

Josiah and Brandy Vencel | ![]() |
Josiah and Brandy were married in May of 2001. They reside in one of the last conservative strongholds of California, the city of Bakersfield. Having grown tired of the traffic, smog and bomb threats in L.A., Josiah and Brandy moved to their present location two years ago.
Josiah currently works as a loan consultant for Lending First Home Loans, a mortgage broker based out of SoCal. Before this, he worked at a small ad agency outside L.A. as a public relations specialist. He graduated from Biola University with a 3.899 GPA (missed Summa Cum Laude by a hair!). In his spare time, Josiah likes reading worldview books, articles and the Drudge Report. When not engaged in this, he serves as a jungle gym for his toddler son and newborn daughter. He’s been working on a piece of non-fiction for Gen Y over the past year (hopefully it will get published before Gen Y reaches retirement). Josiah plays indoor soccer and volleyball in a city league, but he especially enjoys time alone with his brilliant wife while the kids are at grandma’s house. Together, they help lead a newlywed’s ministry at their local church.
Brandy has a BA in Communications Media Management from Biola University and most of a MA in Diversified Theological Studies from Talbot Theological Seminary. Brandy is the stay-at-home mom of two beautiful children. In her imaginary spare time, she likes to bake wheat bread from scratch (this is code for “barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen”), organize community events for their newlywed’s ministry, and read good books (preferably accompanied by something caffeinated from Starbucks).
